On Paul Dennis’s website, there is an endorsement video by Mike Nerland. Not only does he have his title splashed across the page, but where is he? Standing on School District grounds?
Might be a PDC issue ?
Will his political endorsement offend or alienate voters?
Will it be remembered when the next bond issue rolls around?
Wouldn’t it be smarter for a School Superintendent to remain neutral in a political race?

School Board member Doug Quinn is listed on the mayor’s fundraiser flyer also – and also with his title
State/PDC regs require supers/directors to make it clear that they are speaking for themselves, not the district – these two sure aren’t…

Camas Slough.
Both Erickson and Nerland are very public faces and should remain neutral. As Jeff Guard points out the title or position does carry some weight. As far as Nerland being a “player” he is a “wannabe”. Just because Erickson appoints him to the chamber board certainly isn’t a qualification.
He just joins a number of “weak sisters” that Brent appointed. I wish I could appoint my own board so I could be “director for Life”. Milt Dennison was a “player”, Not Nerland.

Crossroads, you have stated it perfectly and succinctly. Thank you!
Now let’s hope others wake up…

Mike has been so unimpressive in his tenure. Maybe he should spend less time working for the politicians.

Wow! So Super Mike is in bed with the Mayor? I wonder if they know Rep. Richard Curtis?
Got to love those good ol’ boys!

One only needs to observe the lackluster leadership of the leading men of CSD 117 – O’Dell, Nerland, Zimmerman, Buck to name the obvious – to understand the futility of this district progressing.

Having had Nerland give me that squinty eyed gee aw shucks don’t you know response several times over the years while trying to get action from him, I have little hope for progress. Him going from principal to superintendent is proof of the Peter Principal at work (no pun intended).
