There is a reason these laws exist and for some reason Bill chose to ignore them. Maybe ignorance or bad advice but ultimately he was wrong. And it is news (not as salacious as Richard Curtis) when a political candidate violates the law

If you read the Columbian you also saw there are some pretty connected players showing interest. And this is only the first day the seat has been open.

Just trying to keep up that last sentence about the blog. Keeping things logical and less biased. I’ve already admitted I like the content, just trying to improve the perception that the content is on track.

Biased – one-sided, excessively devoted to one faction

The blog owner has a great resource here for our community (which I’ve stated previously). Something to bring up the issues, discuss it with fellow citizens. However when it starts biased and partisan, he loses all credibility with those ‘on the fence’ or willing to be pursuaded by a good argument.

That’s just it, these are often not facts, and the conclusions drawn at the end are already tainted by a disposition against the candidate. When you state at the beginning of your position that you are already against the candidate and looking for dirt against them, you’ve lost the battle with those willing to hear both sides.

Remember that this is the same gallagher that published the nasty attack on the port commissioners that Steve Carroll wrote. So much
for his credibility and sense of community.

I’m not saying people (or you) aren’t or shouldn’t be expressing their opinions, that’s what blogs are for. My position is that your points, whether valid or not, would be more likely to convince readers of your blog if you reduced the clear bias from the outset. Present the facts, let others decide. Starting with “…completely ignored the law and has decided to do whatever he darn well pleases..” or “fringe activist group”, and we’re bound to question most of what follows your lead-in.

And to Anon 101, “Matt, BTW how do you describe CCIA?”. It’s a citizen’s action group. Like it or not (and I’m not part of it). But fringe? Clearly many in the community question the actions at the Port, so why jump right in and cause people to question your data and position by being so clearly biased? There is a very big different between holding a position on an issue and being biased.

If you follow the wild goose chase and it happens to be accurate….will you apologize to Gary and Gershon?

It seems as though there is an element in this community, (and in the united states at large), that prefers to find fault with “reporters” rather than with the wrong doers. So…..when a “reporter” albiet not one of yours, brings you a story you dont like….you attack the reporter??

You were very quick to print a “guest Column” in your paper that made totally unsubstantiated allgeations of wrong doing against the three Port of Camas Washougal Commissioners. Do you intend to apologize to them if that column turns out to be the mere rantings of a dissatisfied tenant? (my bet is no)

Mr Gallagher….Who is at fault here: the person that committed a violation or the person reporting it???? I feel for Bill Ward because I dont think he was aware of what was going on in his campaign.

Good job Mr. Gallagher………..in one move you have discredited a good community news paper.

Bill and his crew either chose to ignore it or are not capable of complying. Scary to think about him as an elected official…
